TIM BARTON - The Dominion Post.
Palmerston North jockey Hayden Tinsley will ride New Zealand Oaks winner Boundless in the $2 million Kelt Stakes (2040m) at Hastings next month.
Tinsley partnered Boundless in the Oaks win but did not ride the mare in her three subsequent starts.
Leith Innes had the mount when Boundless won a rating 90 2100m at Ellerslie in April and Melbourne jockey Damien Oliver was the rider when Boundless ran second, beaten a half-neck, in the Australian Oaks.
Apprentice Danielle Johnson rode Boundless when the Ardmore mare resumed with a fresh-up win over 1200m at Tauranga last month.
Boundless is at $10 for the Kelt, on October 4, and will attempt to become the third successive mare to complete the New Zealand Oaks-Kelt double, after Legs and Princess Coup.
She is an entry for the $250,000 Stoney Bridge Stakes (1600m) at Hastings next Saturday but McKee would prefer her to run in the Evans Classic (1600m) at Pukekohe the following day.
"I'm pretty lukewarm about giving her two trips to Hastings in the space of a fortnight. The Stoney Bridge would be a hard run for her second-up, without having a 12-hour round trip as well.
"Hopefully the track will be slow or better at Pukekohe but she will probably run there anyway."
Tinsley will ride Boundless at Pukekohe provided she get sufficient weight, otherwise Johnson will have the mount again.
McKee is not expecting Boundless to race with the same dash at Pukekohe that she showed at Tauranga.
"I've been putting plenty of mileage into her legs because she has to tackle one of the hardest 2000m races in the country 13 days later."
